A Bas Les Aristos

Yes, I know that Bastille Day is still 6 months off, but every once in a while I get an overwhelming urge to join the revolution and scream “a la laterne”!  This usually happens when I come across one of the Chronicle of the Horse’s syrupy stories on a 16-year-old kid who has beaten the pros.  This time it was Palm Beach, and a very big-money hunter classic.

It was very obvious, from the identity of the horses she rode (she finished 1-2) that someone with a great deal of money was behind this kid.  Both horses have had solid careers in the working hunter divisions for the last 4 or 5 years with eminent pros.  There are young ‘uns who do have the ability to make a horse from the ground up, but not this kid.  If she’d made these horses, she would have had to start when she was about 4.

Grumble.  Yes, I’m a wee bit (ok, leave out the “wee bit”) jealous, but nevertheless, where do you get the good grounding if you don’t learn the fundamentals?
